Stay Informed: Massachusetts State House

Did you know, in Massachusetts, most legislation does not make it to a vote and the legislature is immune to public records law?

PowerUPMassachusetts believes the first step in being a champion for rights and needs is by building a relationship with all of your Elected Officials. You do not have to be an expert - only inquisitive and unwavering. Our model  a) Be the Voice. Exchange regular communication with legislators, leadership and committee chairs; set accountability, champion your position and collaborate; b) Be Empowered. Follow and evaluate efforts to sponsor, advocate, obstruct and pass legislation. Track voting records; and c) Connect & Convene. Reach out to organizations and other likeminded People also advocating for the same legislation (or with whom you share points of unity) to amplify collective efforts.  If you are unsure, reach out to us: powerup.01945@gmail.com

POWERUP!

Oof. If you ever want to know why apathy sets in, look to the systems in place at the State House. Our legislative agenda is setup such that what makes it to the floor for a vote, largely reflects the will of Leadership (Speaker of the House and the Chairs of committees, and the Senate President), not necessarily the will of the People. Voter endorsed Policy can and will stall in committees, even if there are no financial implications.

Leaders have been known to create new policy to circumvent Voter endorsed initiatives (i.e. State Auditor Dizoglio 2023-2024). Our priority legislation the I AM Bill, as example, had no opposition and a groundswell of support....and it never made it out of the Ways and Means Committee.

Together we will define new  leadership standards. It starts with YOU.
